Beautiful South Carolina

From Georgetown SC, we decided not to go on the outside, since the winds and waves were both high.   We opted for calm seas and took the ICW.   We anchored in a very quiet anchorage called Whiteside Creek, just before Charleston, SC.  The next morning, sailed through Isle of Palm with it’s wonderful houses.  And then through Charleston, SC, a lovely town which we have visited in the past, and hope to visit again.  We sailed past Fort Sumter.  It was magnificent to see this historical Fort from the water.  We are hoping to spend time in Charleston on the way north.

That evening we anchored n a very private anchorage, called Tom Point Creek.   Literally, we were the only people in the anchorage, listening to the birds, wildlife and even seeing a dolphin.  A magical site.

We sailed to Beaufort, SC.   We took a mooring, and the next day explored this beautiful city in the rain, since it was our only day in Beaufort.  Beaufort, SC is a beautiful city, with National Historical Landmarks, pretty neighborhoods and very eclectic shopping.  We found a wonderful cooking shop, a knit shop and even a shop where the patrons were working because they loved the atmosphere.  Beaufort had a very nice Synagogue, which was closed.  Near the Synagogue was a museum for the Reconstruction Era National Historic Park.  This park commemorates the end of the Civil War, the remnants of Confederate secession and the abolishment of slavery.   It rained most of the day in Beaufort, we settled for eating dinner on the boat, getting ready for our next trip down the ICW.
