St. Michaels Md… A Beautiful Place

‘We left Annapolis, and started to explore the Chesapeake.    We had an amazing sail to St. Michaels, were the wind was from the North, and jibed our way through a curvy entrance.   We anchored in a beautiful little spot, right near the Chesapeake Maritime Museum.

We always knew what time it was, since the church in town has beautiful chimes to tell the time.  The water is gorgeous.   We took out our inflatable kayaks and took advantage of the beautiful water.   We saw something we never saw before, a clam line marker.   I really wanted to go swimming, but saw the sea nettle jellyfish in the water.  Why are jellyfish in waters they never go to?  After the Portuguese Man O’War sting, I decided I didnt want to chance it.

St. Michaels is known for their restaurants.  Awful Arthurs was recommended, so we had to eat there.  We had oysters from Virginia and Maryland.  Very different than our Rhode Island Oysters, since they were not briny at all.  The oysters were large and plump.  We like the Chincoteague oysters the best.   The food was great, the and the cocktails generous and delicious.

The next day we went to the Chesapeake Maritime Museum.  What a great spot.  We learned about the oystering and crabbing, restoring old boats, and boating on the Chesapeake.  Screwpile lighthouses are known on the Chesapeake, and we saw a nice example.   We had a nice lunch at the Crab Claw Restaurant, a St. Michaels destination.

We met Jeff and Sue Morris on Where the Wind Blows, who invited us for Sundowner on their boat.  Socially distanced, we had a very nice evening.

The next day was rain, rain, rain.  These are lost days at seas.  Happy Together has a full enclosure, so we could have travelled.  But we punted and had a day relaxing on the boat, making soup and preparing for the Jamestown Yacht Club Annual Meeting.   Gary is the outgoing commodore of the Yacht Club, and Lesley the outgoing Cruise Director.  We both have enjoyed our time on the JYC board.

The next morning, we woke up early, which was a good thing, because a boat anchored next to us, and because of turning, was ready to hit our boat.   Gary moved up on the anchor, we were still worried about a collision.  We pulled the anchor, and off we went to Solomon’s Island.   It is very cold here… we are so ready for warm weather.  I am ready to get out of my wool socks, and wear sandals everyday.
