What a beautiful day on the Chesapeake, arriving in Annapolis. Now I know why people love to sail here. Protected some what, great winds, and beautiful.
We arrived in Annapolis with our torn sail on the side deck. Our sailmaker, Chuck O’Malley, recommended staying in Spa Creek. This is first come, first serve… so luckily on Columbus Day weekend, we found a mooring. We built a hoist to get the sail into the dinghy, and delivered it to Chuck.
The next day, we had a wonderful visit with our cousins Barbara and Hezi. We had a lovely lunch on HT, then walked the streets of Annapolis. It was a beautiful day. We got take out and had dinner on Happy Together, looking at Annapolis beautiful harbor.
Annapolis, the capital of Maryland is such an historic city. Here sits the United States Naval Academy. While visiting, there must have been a parent’s weekend because all the cadets were in their dress clothes, with parents, girlfriends, and boyfriends. Annapolis is the state capital of Maryland. Here, George Washington resigned his commission as Commander in Chief to the Confederation Congress, right at the State House.
Annapolis is also known for great restaurants, however with COVID, most of the restaurants were limited with outdoor dining. We ate at the famous Buddys, known for their crab cakes. We had drinks at Pussers. Pussers Rum is a type of British Rum, from the Royal Navy, dating back to 1650. When visiting the British Virgin Islands, the traditional drink is a Painkiller, using Pussers Rum. It was so nice, sitting on the deck watching the boats on Ego Alley, as we sipped our Painkillers.
After two days in the rain, we got our sail back from Chuck O’Malley. She looks great. it was time to leave Annapolis. We went to the pumpout, filled the fuel and water tanks, and off to St. Michaels, to start exploring the Chesapeake.
